The darkest day of the season thus far

As predicted the 1st XIs trip to Herne Hill was not an easy one along with a few other trips for our sides over the weekend. Only the seconds can hold their heads up high after retaining their unbeaten record in fine and a gutsy style. Without a doubt the worst weekend's set of results this season.

The relegation and promotion issues are not easy to fathom this year and so one bad result here or there can have a great effect on next year's league placing.

Thank you to all of you who have paid your subs on time - a few laggers but I am sure they willpay with the requisite presure over th enext few days.

A final reminder to put the 6th December's social in your diary that is taking place at TD.

Best weekend yet

The last weekend was the best yet for the club as a whole on the pitch. The third's and vets were he only sides from the men's section who did not win and both should have won comfortably. Even my indifferent umpiring did not help the third's as they were one down at the end of my stint. The vets dominated large parts of their game and we could easily have had 5 out of 5.

The ladies were there usual reliable self.

Last night saw every team represented at training - a first - with real passion displayed and no quarter given during the 90 minutes on the pitch.

Next date for the diary is the 6th December social with the other OC clubs also taking part so a good chance to bring the whole club together which does not happen sufficiently frequently so book the babysitter/aupair now - I am sure she would love to come along..

He who waits

After many years of pushing and prodding we have at last secured a game against the school - on the 3rd January at 14.30 at TD. The game used to be an annual fixture at the school on a Saturday at the end of the school's Easter term. The advent of astroturf hockey saw the game alternate between the school and TD but the game fell by the way side as the school's calendar became too crowded and we as a club became far too strong. The game on the 3rd January will be between the school and the leavers of the last 2 years with the latter being run by Paddy Harman. The teams will be playing for the Roger Loveland vase and will hopefully be an annual event.

Well done to the Bretons for another successful fireworks evening - sorry I could not be there. Much enjoyment from the tone of the reports but no photos from Martin - may be the camera will be in evidence on the 6th December being the next soical at the club although there is the pub crawl this weekend - 15th. Steer clear of Trickster though at the latter stages of the crawl..

A mixed week

A mixed week for results with the Vets winning, the 2s drawing when they should have won and the remainder of the teams losing including the 4s whose unbeaten run has ended. Experience came to the fore in the vets with Stuart Sleeman rolling back the years with 2 strikes.

This week we have the regular emails requesting umpire assistance for home teams so the aim will to be to set up a rota so that every club member umpires at least one game a season for another side.

Saturday sees the first social with the firweorks and now that the social committee has been formed a list of other socials will be on its way out fairly shortly. The aim will be to attract all the teams and so the events will be varied to suit all.

Enjoy the fireworks on Saturday - make sure Cookiey stays well back from the touchpapers.
