Armitage gets engaged, Steele gets married

Belated congratulations to James Armitage on his engagement to Sarah Hickling while on holiday in South Africa over the New Year. Armitage, long regarded as one of the club’s great romantics, celebrated the occasion with an appropriate Facebook message. “Is about to spend months worth of savings on one piece of metal. Engagement ring sex better be awesome!” We’ll leave it at that.

Also congratulations to Stu Steele who quietly got married over the Christmas break to fellow Danes Hill-teacher Liz Barrett. Wisely, Stu doesn’t tell the world his innermost secrets.

Duff and Steele get engaged ... not to each other

Two engagements to announce. Earlier this week Andy Duff got engage to Kate Bartley and we learn through sources (Martin's daughter who has the misfortune to be taught by him) that Stuey Steele has also gone down that route with Liz Barrett, a fellow teacher at Danes Hill. Congratulations to both.

Janmohamed gets engaged

After months after resistance, and to the dismay of the Ladies section (he told me to write that), Abeed Janmohamed has finally done the decent thing and proposed to the long-suffering Alex. He continues to display misplaced bravado (when not at home) by insisting that the wedding will not clash with any cricket, especially the Ashes, and that where and when the wedding takes place is entirely within his control.

Janmohamed has not been seen on the hockey pitch this season despite shelling out almost £600 on new goalkeeping kit (Smithy, keep an eye on ebay). He claims that his doctor has ordered him not to play sport because of something female to do with his knee. The real reason is that he is playing more golf in a desperate bid to gain a place in the OCGC Halford Hewitt squad.

Eds Copleston gets engaged

We are delighted to announce the engagement of Eds Copleston and Sophie Cook in Mombassa at the weekend.

Eds, who succeeded Will Stephens as 1st XI captain three years ago, actually got engaged at the same venue used by his predecessor to pop the question to Katie back in 2001. The delightful Sophie runs the OC Ladies Netball club.

The rather alarming OC link doesn’t end there. The Serena Mombassa, the location of the engagements, is one of many hotels run by Abeed Janmoahmed’s father.
Janmohamed now becomes the bookies’ favourite to be the next high-profile OC to get engaged.
