Old Cranleighans drew with Wanderers
(July 19 2002) A bad toss to lose on the hottest day of the year, with the result that for the third time in the week our popgun bowling attack was put to the sword. Michael Chetwode and Abeed Janmohamed bowled all but 13 of our 59 overs as Anderson and Hamish Marshall, the New Zealand Test batsman who had spectacularly failed against us earlier in the week, made hay. Our bowling would have had rather more bite had Shoaib Akhtar not been prevented by Lashings commitments to turn down John McDermott's offer of £500 to play. We never seriously threatened to get near to the target, starting the last 20 overs at 109 for 4, but Nathan Ross ensured that we wouldn't lose and some bright hitting from Rick Johnson - his 43 came off 27 balls and included five fours and two sixes - enlivened the last hour.
