OCs race into the semis
Old Cranleighans (53 for 0) beat Old Aldenhamians (52) by 10 wickets
No team had been bowled out all week on an almost perfect batting track, but a weakened Aldenhamians side lasted just 100 minutes and the match was over inside two-and-a-half hours. It was the most one-sided contest in living memory, although in fairness to the Aldenhamians they were without seven of their first-choice players.
From the moment that Ed Henderson struck with the sixth ball of the match we were in charge. Henderson's fourth ball was a wide, but thereafter he took 2 for 0 in 7.2 overs of naggingly accurate bowling. Tim Evans struggled for length, but did produce a superb ball to clip the top of Moledina's off stump; in between those two dismissals Rick Johnson took a steepling catch at mid-off. Galvin and Wright seemed to have stopped the rot but the introduction of Michael Chetwode hastened the end, both batsmen falling to sharp stumpings by Will Howard. Thereafter it was men against boys as Chetwode probed and gave nothing away. Of the three runs he conceded, two came courtesy of dropped slip catches. In his two cup matches so far this season Chetwode's figures are 17.5-9-8-5.
Simon Copleston set off briskly with two well-struck fours in the first over, while the usually cavalier Gareth Starling played the anchor role ("It says something when you want Copleston to be on strike," admitted Henry Watkinson). With Copleston dealing in boundaries, the game was over by 1.45pm.
