Eds Copleston

Talked about as a player of great promise from early in his school career, it nevertheless took Eds several seasons to establish himself in the OC side but when he finally did it was worth the wait. A powerful, technically correct batsman capable of batting anywhere in the top order, Eds is the one batsman under 30 capable of destroying any attack and any kind of bowling. He bats with great maturity and although he is happiest taking apart an attack, he is able to grind out an innings when the situation demands; his patient (and ultimately match-winning) half-century in Nairobi was one of his best innings. Strong off his legs and an excellent driver, he has set his sights on overtaking Nigel Paul's record aggregate of runs and there seems little reason that he shouldn't. After a decade of "working on legbreaks" he unveiled them with alarming success, generating considerable turn from slow, massively flighted legspin which rendered batsmen utterly bemused. He is also a quick and efficient fielder and never, ever lost for a few words to describe his feats on the field. In the winter he captains the OCHC 1st XI.
